 The Multi-Color Photometry of Comet Tempel 1/9P

      with BATC Photometric System

BATC color image of Tempel 1/9P

The color image were taken  from 12:30 to 14:00 (UT) of July 4.
The total exposure time is 1 hour. It composed by
d(455nm),h(607nm) and j(705nm) as blue, green and red.
The field of view of this cololor image (400x400pixels) is about 11'x11'.
Top is North and the left is East.

 1, Instrument The large field multi-color photometric observations are
   done with BATC photometric system.  The telescope used is the 60/90
   cm f/3 Schmidt Telescope of National Astronomical Observatories,
   Chinese  Academy of Sciences (NAOC),
   located  at the  Xinglong station.  A Ford  Aerospace  2048 \times
   2048 CCD  camera with 15 micrometer  pixel size is  mounted at the
   Schmidt focus  of the telescope.  The field of  view of the  CCD is
   58' \times 58'  with a pixel scale of 1.7 arc-second.

   The multi-color  BATC filter  system includes 15  intermediate band
   filters, covering  the total optical wavelength range  from 300 to
   1000nm  (   Zhou  et   al.2001).   The  filters   are  designed
   specifically  to avoid  contamination from  the brightest  and most
   variable night sky emission lines.

   The BATC photometric system places the magnitude zero points on the
   spectrophotometric  AB  magnitude  system.   The  AB  system  is  a
   monochromatic  system  first introduced by Oke
   \&  Gunn  in 1983,  which  includes  the spectrophotometric  energy
   distributions (SEDs)  of the  four F sub-dwarfs  including HD19445,
   HD84937, BD+262606, and BD+17 4708.

2,Observation We have made observation of Tempel 1/9P during 10 night
   from May 22,  2005 to July 5, 2005.  Four intermediate band filters
   are used.   They are c(421nm) d(455nm), h(608nm)  and j(705nm) with
   band width  20-30nm.  The variation of  ion lines are  expect to be
   found at 3954 A and 4273 A for  CO+ and 6198 A for H2O+. July 5 was
   a very good photometric night.   All the images of Tempel 1/9P were
   calibrated by the Oke and  Gunn's standards and the images taken in
   the area where the comet images were taken.


3,Data reduction and  result No special techniques were  taken in data
   reduction.  the images  are flat-field  corrected,  coordinates and
   flux calibrated.  As result, we  obtained the reduced images  and a
   catalog of aperture  magnitudes of Tempel 1/9P.  In  the images, the
   unit of the flux is 10^(-30) erg.s-1.cm-2.Hz-1. The catalogue gives
   the  magnitude  in   12  apertures.  They  are:  3,4,5,6,7,8,10,12,
   14,16,18,20 pixels  in radius (note: 1.7"/pixel).  The catalog also
   list the observation  date and time, and the  filter used.  Because
   the  very S/N  in images  of c(421nm)  band. We  did not  make data
   reduction on these images.
