Many people concern about the Earthquake in China and whether it will be affect our conference in Jiayuguan or not. Above all, thanks your attention for the situation about the Earthquake, and we, Chinese people, believe that we'll overcome the calamity and create more beautiful homesteads.

The position of the center of Earthquake (Wen Chuan), the Earthquake in Gansu Provence (Wu Du), Lanzhou and Jiayuguan are both prensented in the Google-Earth image below. The distances between these regions are:

Jiayuguan --- Wen Chuan: 1,030 km

Jiayuguan --- Wu Du: 900 km

Lanzhou --- Wen Chuan: 500 km

Lanzhou --- Wu Du: 300 km

From the current situation, we can not draw a conclusion exactly. The opinion of our LOC is optimistic for the long distance between them and the Earthquake dose not move to the Northwest. The transportation between Lanzhou and Jiayuguan has no problem now.

We hope the meeting will be hold successfully.

The Shakemap from USGS shows that that the intensity distribution of the 5.12 Sichuan quake. It is obvious that the quake intensity dropped very quickly in the radius of 100 km from the epicenter (Wenchuan). The figure indicates that the quake became much weaker and the effect was also much weaker when it reached Lanzhou (~300 km away). Since Jiayuguan (out of the ShakeMap) is much farther than Lanzhou from the epicenter (nearly the same distance from Seoul to Tokyo), the impact can be ignored (Actually, no people in Jiayuguan died or injured in this quake).

Furthermore, any earth quake in the world never can last for several months. Usually the earthquake releases most of its energy in just a few minutes. When we reach Gansu province in the late July, it is about two and a half months later. So our meeting will not affected by the 5.12 Earthquake.
